According to the NFDA 2022 Consumer Awareness and Preferences Survey, 59.4 percent of respondents felt some level of comfort planning and executing a funeral or memorial service without a funeral director’s input, yet 58.7 percent would still contact a funeral director to get help with planning a funeral or memorial service. What is the source of their trust in us? How can we keep that trust and do a better job of gaining the missing 41.3 percent’s confidence? Engaging with the community is key! Discover how to utilize valuable resource tools to bridge the gap between funeral professionals and their communities to ensure connection with families before, during, and after the need for an arrangement conference takes place

Presenters:

Melissa Posey Loose, MA, LFD, CCO serves as the Training and Development Manager for NFDA. A fourth-generation funeral director, she has found particular purpose in connecting with bereaved families, assessing their unique needs, and providing them with award-winning care extending beyond the final goodbyes. She also has extensive experience developing Community grief programming through partnerships by developing and presenting annual memorial events, educator in-service programs, and a camp for children who have experienced the death of a primary caregiver. In her role now with NFDA, Melissa has the opportunity to speak from her diverse “in-field” experiences as she delivers educational programs to students and practitioners around the world, centering on connecting with families and conveying the value of Deathcare in the evolving Funeral Service environment.

Gail Marquardt is Vice President, Consumer Engagement, and manager of NFDA’s consumer education initiative, Remembering A Life. Gail is passionate about the value of a funeral, the value of a funeral director and the im-portance of remembering our loved ones in meaningful ways. Gail is also a volunteer for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), managing Milwaukee’s annual International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day event and is an AFSP Healing Conversations volunteer, providing comfort to others who have experienced the loss of someone they love to suicide.

Approved for 1 CE hour by APFSP and by most state and province licensing boards.
